Think list for employees leaving the UK.

  1. Do you need a work permit to work overseas and if so, have you or your employer obtained one?
  2. Will you be away long enough to cease to be resident in the UK?
  3. Have you considered the impact of your departure date?
  4. Have you considered the residence status of your spouse and children?
  5. Have you completed the Inland Revenue’s departure form P85?
  6. Are you aware of the need to obtain an NT PAYE code?
  7. Do you know how you will be taxed in the country you are going to?
  8. Have you considered the tax implications of the receipt of a bonus after leaving in the UK that relates in part to duties performed in the UK?
  9. Will you need advice about equity / stock option / deferred compensation arrangements?
  10. Do you intend to let out your home?
  11. Have you applied to receive your rental income without a tax deduction?
  12. Have you informed your lender, insurance company and local council of your departure?
  13. If you are planning to sell your property, have you considered the tax implications of the sale in the country where you are moving to?
  14. Are you eligible to continue paying UK National Insurance contributions or do you need to consider paying voluntary contributions?
  15. Will you continue to pay into a UK pension plan?
  16. Have you considered how your and your employer’s contributions into the plan will be treated for tax purposes in the country where you will be working?
  17. Are you intending to regularly visit the UK while working overseas?
  18. Will you be disposing of assets in the year of your departure or thereafter?
  19. Do you have an ISA?
  20. Have you considered transferring interest bearing accounts offshore?
